I hadn’t planned on posting today. But I feel like I need too. I’m sick over hearing about another mass shooting at a school; on a college campus. More innocent lives were taken simply because of a person’s hatred for what others believed in. At least that is what the news was reporting this morning.
It needs to stop.
There are so many massacres that stand out in my mind, and not just school shootings. My earliest memory is from Jonesboro, Arksanas. I was in 6th grade.
After that, there were hundreds, maybe even thousands more, throughout the US.
Columbine. Virginia Tech. The Aurora Movie Theater Massacre. Newton, CT. The Washington Navy Yard. Charleston, South Carolina.
And so many more; all senseless and horrific tragedies.
And now, Roseburg Oregon. Umpqua Community College. Yet another tragedy we have to try to wrap our heads around.
President Obama said it best in his press conference. He said that with the frequency of mass shootings, people have “become numb to this.”
And sadly, it’s true. While our hearts ache for Oregon, in a few days’ time, those who aren’t directly affected by it will move on. And unfortunately, there will be more. And the same cycle will begin again.
We’re up to 45 school shootings this year. 45.
I’ll let that sink in for a moment.
Make it stop. Make all of this unnecessary violence end.
And send your healing thoughts and prayers to Oregon. They need it now, more than ever.
